Environment

Approach

Approach

At Steedman Planning we use an holisitic approach to understanding environmental considerations. In a small place like Jersey, which is home to over 100,000 residents the environment is multi-faceted and requires consideration of natural, human and built environments and the regulatory, policy and political contexts that shape them.

Understanding local and wider environmental context is key to delivering high quality design.

Principles

  • Environmental considerations inform design from the initial concept. We engage with environmental consultants at the right time to help you understand environmental risk through the design process.
  • Local context and ecosystems inform the design. We take time to understand the local context so that your design is shaped by the unique characteristics of place.
  • Minimise environmental impact. We design so that energy is used efficiently, resource consumption is minimised, material choices are as sustainable as possible and pollution and waste are minimised.
  • Mitigate and enhance natural systems. Wherever possible we promote design that restores, regenerates and enhances natural systems.
  • Collaboration. Environment-led design requires collaboration across environmental aspects and also with the community.
